Buy UK Poppy Seeds for Your Culinary Creations
Whether you are making rolls, salad dressing or a batch of brown rice, poppy seeds offer a delicious addition to the recipe. Their distinctive taste and nutty crunch enhance the other flavors in whatever you serve. Best of all, poppy seeds pack a surprising nutritional punch, increasing the levels of fiber and antioxidants in any dish.
Poppy seeds are incredibly versatile. They taste great in sweet or savory dishes. You can add them to a stir fry to balance out the vegetables and meat, giving the meal a nuttier flavor. They blend into desserts with ease, mellowing out sharper flavors, such as lemon or almond. Of course, many people love poppy seeds with bread, whether it’s a hamburger bun or a bagel. Sprinkle a handful of seeds on top, and the bread takes on a new dimension.
You can turn poppy seeds into a paste by mixing them with sugar and either butter or milk. Use this poppy seed paste in a dessert such as pastries or croissants. You can also employ it as a substitute for other binding agents in baked goods. Try it in place of jam, for instance, or applesauce.

These nutrients produce healthy skin and red blood cells. The high fiber content aids in digestion and ensures you stay full for hours — that means less grabbing for unhealthy snacks between meals, which can keep your waistline under control, as well.
The History of Poppy Seeds
Poppy seeds have been around for centuries, and people have been eating them since ancient times. You have to go back in history pretty far to find the first mention of poppy seeds. Many say they originate in the western Mediterranean area, growing well in sandy soil in a temperate climate.
In ancient times, people also used poppy seed oil for painting. You can find paintings in caves dating back thousands of years that were made from poppy seed oil.
Where Can You Use Poppy Seeds?
Poppy seeds make a unique baking ingredient because they're so versatile. They can be added as a topping to the main dish, used as a main ingredient a recipe highlights or mixed into a sauce to go on top of the main course. That's why you always want to have as many seeds on hand as possible — you can run out quickly if you don't keep a large supply.
We encourage you to get creative in the kitchen and tap into your rich imagination to find different ways to utilize poppy seeds in the kitchen. But if you need some ideas, here are a few of our favorites.
1. Poppy Seeds for Breakfast
Like all the seeds carried by Sincerely Nuts, our UK poppy seeds make an easy mix-in for any dishes you make from scratch. You can pour them into muffin or pancake batter, as well as add them to waffles or make poppy seed scones. Do you like savory oatmeal? Try stirring some poppy seeds into this morning staple for an entirely fresh take on the meal. And you can always have that breakfast staple, the poppy seed-covered bagel.
You can even toss poppy seeds into a smoothie for a new twist on an old favorite. Add your favorite frozen berries, a banana and a cup of milk to a blender along with a handful of poppy seeds. Blend until creamy, adding ice if needed to increase the thickness. Sip and enjoy.
2. Poppy Seeds for Lunch
One of the most popular ways to use poppy seeds in your meals is to sprinkle them on a salad. Their nutty but mild taste will complement the other flavors in a salad, such as the veggies. You could also make a salad dressing using poppy seeds. One particularly delicious combination is strawberry poppy seed. Finally, you can make a very simple on-the-go lunch of brown rice, peas and poppy seeds.
3. Poppy Seeds for Dinner
Stir fries are a family favorite that will delight your loved ones when you add poppy seeds to the mix. The seeds give the dish an additional layer of flavor and a bit more fiber. They also taste delicious with pasta. You could even make a creamy alfredo sauce and mix in poppy seeds, then serve over top of spaghetti.
4. Poppy Seeds for Dessert
Poppy seeds make so many appearances in desserts, it's difficult to narrow down the best use for them. You can try them in pastries, which is a very European tradition. Or, you can pair them with a fruit flavor for a true classic, the lemon-poppy seed cake. Strudel with poppy seed paste will always be a crowd pleaser. And, of course, you can make cookies for that special sweet-nutty taste everyone will adore.
Use Poppy Seeds to Make Ethnic Foods
Poppy seeds are staples in ethnic food, too. In many cultures, they're associated with certain holidays. The Jewish tradition, for instance, incorporates poppy seeds into some Passover fare, while central European countries celebrate Christmas with poppy seed-heavy pastries.
Depending on where you go around the world, you may find the seeds used in very different ways:
- Western Europe: Europeans add poppy seeds to pasta dishes and also boiled in milk to create a sweet filling for pastries.
- Eastern Europe: Jewish families from this region prepare Purim during the month before Passover. This pastry is filled with poppy seeds. In Ukraine, bublik bread is topped with poppies.
- Germany: Germans love using poppy seeds in strudel and poppy seed cake called mohnstriezel.
- India: In Kashmir, poppy seeds form the top layer on Kulcha, a cookie that can be savory or sweet. Korma, a creamy dish made with vegetables, also includes poppy seeds. And anarsa, a treat consumed during the Diwali festival, includes a garnish made with poppy seeds.
What Are Some Other Uses for Poppy Seeds From the UK?
You can grind poppies and stir them into milk. Apply them to dry spots on your skin as a moisturizer.
Have you ever made your own bird seed mixture? Poppy seeds make a terrific addition to this mix. Birds love these seeds just as much as people.
You also can press poppy seeds into poppy seed oil, which has quite a few uses.

Sincere Nuts is the best nut, candy, seed and bakery company around. All of their products is top tier which is why they will continually get my business. I have tried many others since I do a multitude of cooking and baking, and its safe to call then the "Mercedes-Benz" of this industry...These UK seeds have a much better earth like taste versus the pepper taste from the spanish. I found these to be better for my baking and variety of recipe dishes as it gives my cookies/bagels and pies a much more pleasing taste. Top notch SN
Great in a variety of baking!
The Very Best for Our Bakery, Thank You for Your Passion for Excellence !
These are great for poppy seed rolls and lemon cake because of the aroma while baking and taste. Throw away all others, Because of the nutrients, I favor them on breakfast eggs and with oatmeal that is combined with diced apricots, cherries, cranberries, chopped almonds, chopped apricot seeds, powdered malt, powdered maple syrup, whey protein isolate, salt and yeast. Am 73 years old, consistently 170 lbs, have a large yearly garden, weight lift and have been eating this type of breakfast for decades.
These are much tastier than the same ones bought via Amazon. They must save their best batches for themselves.
